This comedy tells the fictional story of the real-life artist Jean-Francois Millet. A struggling artist in 19th century France, Twain’s tale imagines Millet faked his own death to increase the value of his paintings. Then, he disguises himself as his sister in an attempt to control his artwork after his “death.”
