The JJMS Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Elissa Leventhal, performed three selections and earned Gold at the NYSSMA Major Organization Festival held at Queens College recently.
The Chamber Orchestra played three selections: Conquistador by Deborah Baker Monday, Fantasia on a Theme from Thailand, and an arrangement of Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off.
“I’m so proud of the students’ accomplishments; we had a fantastic year of music-making!” said Ms. Leventhal. She added that Queens College, where the NYSSMA festival took place, was where she received her music education degree. “I’ve performed on that stage countless times. To bring my students there and stand on the same stage, this time as a conductor, was very special to me”.
